What Is The Barton System?

The Barton System is a 10-level, Orton-Gillingham program that is unique in its comprehensive focus on phonemic awareness—the most common reason children with Dyslexia struggle with reading. All students start at Level 1 and must follow a consistent schedule of two 1-hour sessions per week.

Have Questions?

We’re here to help!
Below are a few of the most popular questions we receive from parents.

The program is designed for students who have dyslexia or significant reading, spelling, or phonological processing difficulties. Students must first pass a short screening to ensure readiness.

Barton teaches phonemic awareness, decoding, spelling rules, fluency, syllable types, and morphology. These foundational skills help students read and spell with accuracy and confidence.

We recommend that students attend 2 sessions per week for steady progress. Consistency is crucial for success in the program.

Traditional tutoring often focuses on worksheets or grade-level content. Barton uses a research-based, Orton–Gillingham approach that teaches the underlying structure of the English language—essential for students with dyslexia.

We are open throughout the week, including weekends. Depending on the location we may offer different hours. Check the Google listing for the most up-to-date hours.
